Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by the club president, Sally Craig, at

7:04 PM, with 12 members and guests present.

Minutes: The minutes of the March 2024 general meeting were presented by Karen Horgan and approved as read.

Financial Report: Financial Report: The financial report, showing a cash balance of $1,409.95, was presented by Richard Layne and was approved as read.

Speakers: 

Rodney Lee announced that the Drive to the Polls golf tournament was postponed due to the inclement weather forecast. The make-up date will be August 31, 2024. Our club will continue to seek golfers to play and hole sponsorships. We will also continue to solicit gifts for the silent auction. We will also sell mulligans at the tournament.

Karroll Parker talked about the state Democratic Convention which will be held in El Paso, June 6-8. He encouraged everyone to attend. They expect about 5,000 attendees. Check TexDem Convention at the website https://texasdemocraticconvention.com for more info.

Northwest Tarrant Progressives Minutes: General Meeting, Wednesday, March 20, 2024

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by the club president, Sally Craig, at

7:00 PM, with 14 members and guests present.

Minutes: The minutes from the March 2024 general meeting were presented by Karen Horgan and approved as read.

Financial Report: The financial report showing a cash balance of $1,257.52. was presented by Treasurer, Richard Layne and was approved as read.

Speakers: 

Sally Craig spoke about the upcoming County Democratic Convention and encouraged members to attend. We will have a table at the Convention to advertise the Drive of the Polls Golf Tournament and need volunteers to help man the table.

Cindy Stormer, candidate for Tarrant County District Judge, 213th District Court, spoke about the mishandling and corruption within the County Judicial system, including conditions in the county jail, especially the number of inmate deaths.  There are millions of dollars in lawsuits pending due to deaths that have occurred in jail. The jail is terribly overcrowded and understaffed.  Judges don’t show up to court for scheduled cases, people are being jailed for Class C misdemeanors, which adds to the jail population. She said 430 people have been sent to private prisons. Approximately $55 million is being spent on for-profit prisons. 

Please spread the word about how important it is to elect Cindy and other Democrats in our local judicial races. Two other crucial races that were also mentioned were.

1.       Patrick Moses for Sheriff. Probably the best and strongest, most qualified Democrat we’ve ever had running for Sheriff. His election would make a world of difference in Tarrant County.

2.       Marq Clayton, candidate for Judge, would be the only African American judge in the county.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by the club president, Sally Craig, at

7:00 PM, with 15 members and guests present.

Minutes: Karen Horgan presented the minutes from the January 2024 general meeting. The minutes were approved as presented.

Financial Report: The financial report was presented by Richard ???, showing a cash balance of $1,445.36. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Speakers: 

Rodney Lee announced the golf tournament will be held on April 20 with an 8:00 am tee time. We are partnering with the County Democratic Party to host the tournament. NWTP members will be needed the day of the tournament to help. Sponsorship of a hole will be $100. The silent auction and sponsorships of 9 holes will benefit NWTP. The club is responsible for soliciting auction items and hole sponsorships. If anyone knows any golfers, please ask them to play in the tournament.

Sally urged everyone to participate in the County Democratic Convention on Saturday, March 23 at the UNT Health Science Center. Register to be a delegate at the County Party’s website https://tarrantdemocrats.org
